If you have multiple versions of GCC installed on your system, it is preferred to type "gcj-$(gcc3.4-version)" (without double quotes) in order to use the GNU Java compiler version 3.4.0.
gcc-java 3.3.2 GPL Java support for gcc This package adds experimental support for compiling Java(tm) programs and bytecode into native code. To use this you will also need the libgcj package. gcj-tools 3.3.2 GPL Java related tools from gcc 3.3.2 This package includes Java related tools built from gcc 3.3.2: * gij: a Java ByteCode Interpreter * gcj-jar: a fast .jar archiver * gcjh: generating C++ header files corresponding to ``.class'' files * jcf-dump: printing out useful information from a ``.class'' file * jv-scan: printing some useful information from a ``.java'' file If you have multiple versions of GCC installed on your system, the above-mentioned tools are called as follows: "<gcj_tool>-$(gcc3.3-version)" (without double quotes).
java_binfmt 1.0.2 GPL Java Binary Kernel Support for Linux Linux beats them ALL! While all other OS's are TALKING about direct support of Java Binaries in the OS, Linux is doing it! You can execute Java applications and Java Applets just like any other program after you installed this package. Caution: it assumes java and appletviewer are both in your PATH ! You also need binfmt_misc kernel feature, either directly or as a module.
jikes 1.18 IBM Public License Java source to bytecode compiler The IBM Jikes compiler translates Java source files to bytecode. It also supports incremental compilation and automatic makefile generation, and is maintained by the Jikes Project: http://ibm.com/developerworks/opensource
kaffe 1.1.2 GPL A free virtual machine for running Java(TM) code Kaffe is a free virtual machine designed to execute Java(TM) bytecode. Kaffe can be configured in two modes. In the first mode, it operates as a pure bytecode interpreter (not unlike Javasoft's machine). In the second mode, it performs "Just-In-Time" code conversion from the abstract code to the host machine's native code. The second mode will ultimately allow execution of Java code at the same speed as standard compiled code, while also maintaining the advantages and flexibility of code independence. Note that Sun's Swing 1.1.1 implementation also works with Kaffe. Install the kaffe package if you need a Java virtual machine.
libgcj4-devel 3.3.2 GPL Header files and libraries for Java development Development headers and libraries for the GNU Java Compiler. The libgcj includes parts of the Java Class Libraries, plus glue to connect the libraries to the compiler and the underlying OS.
libgcj4-static-devel 3.3.2 GPL Static libraries for Java development Static libraries for the GNU Java Compiler.
libgcj5-devel 3.4.0 GPL Header files and libraries for Java development Development headers and libraries for the GNU Java Compiler. The libgcj includes parts of the Java Class Libraries, plus glue to connect the libraries to the compiler and the underlying OS.
libgcj5-static-devel 3.4.0 GPL Static libraries for Java development Static libraries for the GNU Java Compiler.
