| sawfish | 1.3 | GPL | An extensible window manager for the X Window System | Sawfish is an extensible window manager which uses a Lisp-based scripting language. All window decorations are configurable and the basic idea is to have as much user-interface policy as possible controlled through the Lisp language. Configuration can be accomplished by writing Lisp code in a personal .sawfishrc file, or using a GTK+ interface. Sawfish is mostly GNOME compliant. |
| sawfish-themes | 0.2 | GPL | A collection of themes for the sawfish window manager | This is a collection of themes for the Sawfish window manager. Authors include John Harper <jsh@users.sourceforge.net> and Tuomas Kuosmanen <tigert@helixcode.com>. Sawfish can be found at http://sawmill.sourceforge.net |
At the film company DreamWorks, Ed Leonard has ported the entire graphics animation department to Linux; Shrek was created on a “renderfarm” (a powerful, refrigerator-size rack of servers) that had 800 processors running Linux. Leonard took the money he saved by not having maintenance contracts and used it to buy far more inexpensive Linux PCs. He says the money he has saved will allow DreamWorks to replace desktops and the renderfarm every two years instead of every five. — Scott Berinato
